“Crumbs From the Table”

Our Gospel reading for this week is a unique story as Jesus travels outside of his jurisdiction. A Gentile woman challenges Jesus for a blessing, and initially he seems to discard her with a reply that is shocking and confusing. In response, she seems happy even for the leftover crumbs. Is Jesus’ mission being challenged, or is he working in partnership with her to defy the boundaries of the day? Are we content with the crumbs of faith, or does Jesus really want us to expect more? Readings―Isaiah 35:1-10, Mark 7:24-30
