This season we are exploring our connection and responsibility towards those of our neighbors who are “Outsiders” – something many of us know about personally. This Sunday we heard in the Gospel reading that Jesus himself was homeless as he ministered to the crowds. In fact, he called people to leave the comforts of home to follow him.
Why is there so much houselessness and homelessness in our country today, and in the world? Why are there so many refugees who live in dire conditions? It is so easy to turn away, to avoid this growing problem. What should be our response – as people of faith, as citizens of this country and the global community? What would Jesus have us care about and do?
