The Spirit Testifies
It is the season of Pentecost, and we are not done with the Spirit! Or, She is not done with us! This Sunday, we will continue to unpack the work of the Holy Spirit – as the Spirit itself testifies to our status as “children of God.” Jesus is God’s Son – and we are heirs with Jesus, of all the promises of God. We share in the suffering and glory that is part of being fully alive.
In John’s gospel, chapter 3 verse 16, we hear what Martin Luther called, “The gospel in miniature:” ‘God so loved the world, that God sent Jesus . . . that we should not perish, but have everlasting life!”
To follow Jesus is to be connected to a God who loves the whole world, in all its mess and chaos and challenges. God did not send Jesus to condemn the world, but to save it!
